UNL Students

As a freshman or someone transferring to the university, if you have a disability or are a first-generation student from a low-income household, a little help can go a long way in securing your baccalaureate degree.

Dr. Engle et al. in their study, "Moving Beyond Access College Success For Low-Income, First-Generation Students" , write: "Given the pressure to remain competitive in the global knowledge economy, it is in our shared national interest to act now to increase the number of students who not only enter college, but more importantly earn their degrees, particularly baccalaureate degrees". Due to the changing demographics of the United States, the study sponsored by the Council for Opportunity in Education , urges we focus our efforts on improving postsecondary access and success among those populations who have previously been underrepresented in higher education, namely low-income and minority students, many of whom will be the first in their families to go to college.

The Office of TRIO Programs through Student Support Services (SSS) strives to meet these challenges.

We work with eligible students who are enrolled towards their baccalaureate degree at the university. The program provides a gamut of services ranging from academic monitoring, tutoring, placement assistance, etc. You also get access to resources, which include laptops, calculators, etc. We want you to know: Your Story Matters.
